Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –An Albuquerque mother whose two year old son shot himself with a gun will be heading to prison. The incident happened in April of 2025 while Amillia Garcia was staying at an apartment with three friends and her two young children. While everyone was sleeping Garcia heard a gunshot and found her two year old son with a gunshot wound and a firearm nearby. Two of the adults in the apartment left with the gun while Garcia stayed with her son. Garcia pled guilty earlier this year to child abandonment resulting in death and tampering with evidence. She was sentenced Wednesday to 10 years in prison.
