ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The City of Albuquerque is moving forward with plans to redevelop a former Shriners property into affordable housing and is now seeking proposals from developers interested in the project.
The city recently issued a Request for Proposals for the property located at 6600 Zuni Road SE, with plans calling for the creation of 40 to 100 affordable multi-family rental units.
According to city officials, approximately $6.6 million in federal funding has been allocated to help support the development.
Leaders say the project is part of the city’s ongoing efforts to increase affordable housing opportunities and address housing needs across Albuquerque. The redevelopment would transform the vacant site into housing aimed at serving residents in need of affordable rental options.
Developers interested in the project have until the end of September to submit proposals. City officials will then review submissions and select a development team to move the project forward.
The proposed redevelopment is one of several initiatives underway as Albuquerque continues to look for ways to expand its affordable housing inventory and make use of underutilized properties throughout the city.
