Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Albuquerque police releasing new details on an officer involved shooting that happened in downtown on Central and 3rd street over the 4th of July weekend and where a man was shot and killed by officers.
Police say that 41-year old Stephen Griego who was killed by police, had shot two men earlier on Friday night. APD reports a man showed up at a local hospital over the weekend with a gunshot wound to his arm and told detectives that Griego shot him at the intersection of Central Ave. and 3rd St when he tried to intervene in an altercation between Griego and another man. Social media video showed Griego shoot in the direction of the two men. Police officers in downtown responding to the shots fired, found Griego firing his gun and four officers fired several shots killing Griego. Then police found that a fourth man standing outside a restaurant on Central and 2nd street who suffered serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
