Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – An 18-year old Sunland Park teenager is in custody in Santa Fe following a shooting that happened at a Santa Fe hotel. Juan Rodriguez, is charged with Aggravated Battery and other charges for allegedly shooting his cousin in the head while both were in the hotel room. When police arrived they found a man with the gunshot wound to the head and was airlifted to UNM Hospital where he was in critical condition at last report.
Police report that Rodriguez told them he and his cousin were drinking in the room and thought the gun was unloaded. Police say he told them that he pointed the gun toward his cousin and pulled the trigger.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
