Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – The Multi-Agency Task Force is now in-charge of investigating after APD officers were involved in a deadly shooting in the downtown area of Central Avenue and 3rd Street.
Police say the incident began before midnight on Friday, when 41-year-old Stephen Griego was involved in an altercation with another man and at some point a gunshot was fired. Officers in the area ran toward the location and fired several shots at Griego, he was taken to the hospital where he died of gunshot wounds. The other man involved in the altercation with Griego, was shot once, and was takent to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries. A bystander also received a non life-threatening gunshot wound possibly by a stray bullet about a block away from the shooting.
APD’s Internal Affairs Division will also conduct an investigation into the shooting.
