CLOVIS, N.M. — Clovis police have released new details in a homicide investigation connected to a late-night crash earlier this week.
Officers initially responded around 11:06 p.m. on June 29 to a report of a vehicle crashing into a home near 14th and Hull Streets. At the scene, they located a white SUV and a 28-year-old man, now identified as Abel Abeyta, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Abeyta was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center and later transferred to a hospital in Lubbock, Texas, where he died from his injuries.
Detectives have since determined that the shooting occurred at a residence in the 100 block of East Christopher Street in Clovis.
Police say a person involved in the shooting has been identified and interviewed. Investigators are continuing to gather information as part of the case.
Authorities say the findings from the investigation will be forwarded to the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
At this time, no arrests have been made.
