SAN JUAN COUNTY, N.M. — A brush fire in San Juan County is forcing evacuations and shutting down a portion of a state highway.
Crews are responding to the fire along New Mexico Highway 170 north of Road 1424, where flames have spread through brush and debris.
Officials say the highway is closed between Road 1401 and Road 1424, and drivers are being urged to avoid the area and find alternate routes.
Firefighters report that downed power lines are adding to the challenges on scene, and the roadway is expected to remain closed for an extended period of time.
The fire is currently estimated at about two acres and is considered contained, but crews say debris continues to burn and requires ongoing monitoring.
Evacuations have been ordered in the area as a precaution. No injuries have been reported at this time.
Officials say this remains an active situation, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
