Hobbs, NM (KKOB)- A Hobbs middle school teacher is in critical condition at a Lubbock hospital after being shot by a 13-year old student on Friday. Hobbs Police Chief James Jones providing more details on Sunday. He says police received multiple calls about a shooting at Highland Middle School in Hobbs around noon Friday. Teacher Kelly Matthews was outside the school suffering from gunshot wounds when officers arrived. The 13-year old students was arrested after a brief foot chase and is facing multiple charges.
The motive is still unclear according to police and oficials say they know how the student obtained the firearm but said they are withholding that information at this time.
