NAVAJO STATE PARK, N.M. — The New Mexico Aviation Division is advancing plans for a $1 million rehabilitation project at Navajo State Park Airport, also known as Navajo Lake Airport.
The project is designed to improve safety and reliability at the airport through upgrades to major airfield infrastructure. Planned improvements include rehabilitation of the airport’s runway, taxiway, and aircraft apron.
State officials say the airport serves as a gateway to Navajo State Park, a popular destination for boating, fishing, camping, and other outdoor recreation activities.
In addition to improving aviation facilities, the project includes plans for new campground development adjacent to the airport apron. The campground is intended to support visitors who travel by aircraft and want direct access to outdoor recreation opportunities at Navajo Lake.
Improvements are also planned for the airport’s access road, which officials say will provide safer and more efficient access for pilots, campers, and other visitors using the facility.
The project is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve transportation infrastructure while supporting tourism and recreation in the region.
