SANTA FE COUNTY, N.M. — Santa Fe County commissioners are asking the New Mexico Department of Transportation to rename a stretch of highway near Jeffrey Epstein’s former Zorro Ranch property.
The proposal would designate New Mexico Highway 41 between mile markers 45 and 49 as “Survivors Memorial Highway.”
According to county leaders, the proposed designation is intended to honor the strength, resilience, and memory of survivors of human trafficking, sexual exploitation, sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse.
Commissioners are also requesting the installation of roadway signs recognizing Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Relatives, an issue that has drawn significant attention across New Mexico and the Southwest.
The proposed stretch of highway runs near Zorro Ranch, the property once owned by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
The request has been submitted to the New Mexico Department of Transportation, which must review and approve the proposal before any signage or official name change can take effect.
No timeline has been announced for NMDOT’s decision.
