ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque Police detectives are continuing to investigate the death of an 8-month-old boy who was found deceased Tuesday morning at a home in Albuquerque’s North Valley.
Officers were called to a residence in the 600 block of Aztec Road N.W. around 8:30 a.m. After arriving at the scene, Albuquerque Fire Rescue personnel confirmed the infant had died.
The investigation is being handled by APD’s Crimes Against Children Unit, which is working to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Police said the cause of death has not yet been determined.
As part of the preliminary investigation, detectives learned the child’s parents, Mark Armijo, 35, and Shawna Sitz, 41, were on active probation or parole related to convictions for trafficking a controlled substance.
According to APD, both Armijo and Sitz were arrested Tuesday for violating the conditions of their probation and parole.
Authorities have not announced any charges directly related to the infant’s death, and investigators say the case remains active.
Additional information is expected to be released as the investigation continues.
