SANDOVAL COUNTY, N.M. — Evacuations have been ordered in parts of Sandoval County and the Santa Fe National Forest as crews respond to a wildfire burning in the McCauley Springs area.
Forest officials say the fire was reported earlier today and has burned approximately 30 acres. Crews are actively working to contain the flames.
Several areas are currently under GO evacuation status, including Jemez Falls Campground, Sierra Los Pinos, and Vallecitos. No areas are under SET status at this time, while Los Alamos County remains under a READY status, meaning residents should be prepared in case conditions change.
Officials say smoke may be visible in Albuquerque, Jemez Springs, and surrounding communities.
Evacuation shelters have been set up at the Jemez Mountain Baptist Church along Highway 126 and the Jemez Senior Center on Highway 4.
Authorities say the situation remains active as crews continue firefighting efforts.
