Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — A large-scale data center project planned for Socorro is no longer moving forward. New Mexico Tech President Dr. Michael Jackson says the proposal was halted due to uncertainty surrounding the development and limited land availability. The project would have included a 10-thousand-acre site with solar panels, located between Socorro and Magdalena. New Mexico Tech had planned to lease land for the development. While the proposal has been canceled, Jackson says there may be an opportunity to reconsider a similar project down the line.
