The U.S. Forest Service has released a new mobile app designed to help people plan visits to national forests and grasslands, including popular recreation areas across New Mexico.
The National Forests and Grasslands app, now available for iOS and Android devices, offers users access to a nationwide database of Forest Service recreation sites. The app includes key details like site amenities, operating hours, and directions.
It also provides real-time updates on closures, weather impacts, and safety alerts, helping visitors stay informed before and during their trips.
Users can search for specific outdoor activities, including hiking, camping, fishing, hunting, biking, equestrian trails, and water-based recreation, allowing for more customized trip planning.
Forest Service officials say the app is intended to make exploring public lands easier and safer, especially as more visitors head outdoors during the busy summer months.
The app is free to download through the Apple App Store and Google Play.
