Bernalillo, NM (KKOB) -A man involved in Tuesday morning active shooter situation in Bernalillo is now in custody. The incident began before 5 a.m. after officers received a 911 call that someone was shooting at their vehicle and in fact was struck by gunfire in the area of Highway 550 and North Hill Rd in Bernalillo. Officers arrived on the scene near the Rail Runner Express station and began searching for the man. A foot pursuit took place once the suspect was found, but officers lost visual contact for a brief time then locating him near Bernalillo High School and that’s when he pointed a firearm at officers who then fired at the suspect. The man fled from that location exchanging gunfire with police and locating him again in a ditch. Just after 7 a.m the man was taken into custody. No officers were injured during the gunfire exchange. New Mexico State Police is now investigating the police shooting portion of the investigation.
Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including the Sandoval County Sheriff’s Office, Rio Rancho Police Department, New Mexico State Police, and federal agencies.
