Las Cruces, NM (KKOB) – Las Cruces Police have confirmed that the 13-year old boy who was shot in the head last week by his friend in Las Cruces has died. The boy identified as Chris Carnero, was shot in the back of his head by his friend who is also 13-years old, police reports say. Both of them attended Picacho Middle School. The 13-year old who is not being identified due to his age, is facing charges of negligent use of a deadly weapon and possession of a deadly weapon by a minor, is now charged with involuntary manslaughter.
LCPD is still investigating the shooting and the 13 year old shooter is detained by the Juvenile Probation Office in Doña Ana County.
In a Facebook post the school posted the following message:
“Picacho Middle School is heartbroken by the loss of one of our students, Chris. He was a bright light on our campus and will always be part of our Scorpion family.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his family during this incredibly difficult time. We also honor the powerful legacy he leaves through the gift of organ donation, allowing his light to live on in others.”
