Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –A lawsuit has been filed on behalf of eight APD officers who are suing the federal government after responding to an F-35B crash in May of 2024. The lawsuit contends the officers were exposed to hazardous chemicals causing them ongoing medical issues. APD officers were the first on scene to respond to the crash south of the airport after the jet refueled at Kirtland Air Force Base. The officers claim they were not told they needed protective equipment while they were at the crash site. A day after the crash the officers learned from the Office of Emergency Management that the smoke plume was hazardous and they had been exposed to dangerous substances. The lawsuit seeks damages for the officers ongoing medical issues tied to the exposure of the smoke plume.
