Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – Court documents show a plea agreement has been reached in the shooting death of a 2-year-old child.
Thirty-six-year-old Amillia Garcia pleaded guilty to child abandonment resulting in death and tampering with evidence. She faces up to 10 years in prison when she is sentenced. The case stems from an April 2025 shooting at an apartment on Buena Vista Drive SE near Gibson and Yale. Police responding to the scene found the child suffering from a gunshot wound and a firearm with an extended magazine nearby. Officers attempted lifesaving measures, but the child was pronounced dead. Sentencing is scheduled for a later date. Three other people inside the apartment were also charged in the case:
– Angelica Lucero, 24, charged with tampering with evidence
– Angel Cordova, 25, charged with tampering with evidence and being a felon in possession of a firearm
– Angel Morales, 22, charged with tampering with evidence
