EDGEWOOD, N.M. — A two-year-old child has died after being run over by the same vehicle they were riding in Sunday night in Edgewood. According to police, the car hit an uneven patch of pavement, causing a door to pop open. The child fell out and was then struck by the vehicle.
Emergency responders transported the toddler to a nearby hospital, where they later died from their injuries. Authorities have not released the child’s identity.
The incident remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed at this time. Police have not disclosed whether the child was properly restrained or if any mechanical issues contributed to the door opening.
Officials are urging caution and awareness when transporting young children, especially in vehicles with older or modified door mechanisms.
