Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The historic “main street of America”, Route 66, which is celebrating 100 years, stretches from Santa Monica, California, to Chicago, Illinois. The state of New Mexico has a particular place in the history of the “Mother Road. According to the Federal Highway Administration, the part of Route 66 with the lowest daily traffic is a 20-mile stretch of Interstate 25, from around Rowe to Soham, which only sees about 8,800 vehicles a day on average. The relatively lonely section can be found in the branch of interstate east of Santa Fe. Drivers can enjoy the scenery of the Santa Fe foothills, and access Pecos National Historic Park which has hiking trails and archaeological ruins.
