Cibola County, NM (KKOB) – A Cibola County is now facing three felony charges including second-degree murder for the death of a transgender person in April in Cibola County. 57-year old David Thomas Byington is accused of shooting and killing 39-year old Lucas Knapp during an argument that became violent in the area known as Candy Kitchen on April 18. A grand jury indicted Byington on April 24.
nvestigators from the Cibola County Sheriff’s office report that the two got into an argument over whether Knapp and another person were supposed to be at the Candy Kitchen property. Byington then fled from the scene and told his wife Tania not to report him or say anything over the incident. He turned himself into authorities a few days later.
His wife is also facing charges of tampering with evidence. He will remain in jail without bond until his trial.
