16-Year-Old Suspect Was on Probation at Time of Killing
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A 16-year-old from Santa Fe is facing charges in the July 2 shooting death of Frank Howard, a homeless man killed near Menaul and Eubank in northeast Albuquerque. According to Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman, the teen and a group of friends were in a stolen vehicle when they harassed, chased, and ultimately shot Howard.
The suspect, whose name has not been released due to his age, was reportedly on probation for a separate offense at the time of the murder. Bregman said the teen has had 12 prior referrals to the juvenile justice system.
Investigators believe the same group of juveniles is connected to a separate incident that occurred the same day in Santa Fe. Police say two male and three female juveniles, ranging in age from 12 to 16, were involved in an attack on a pregnant woman and her family at a Burger King.
Authorities are continuing to investigate both cases. The teen charged in Howard’s death is expected to face additional legal proceedings in the coming weeks.
