A 48-year-old man is facing multiple charges after allegedly damaging his neighbor’s property and threatening police officers with his vehicle over the weekend.
According to court documents, Juan Castro called police Saturday to report that his neighbor, identified as Dustin Lee Smith, had broken a window and damaged a camera on his property. When officers arrived, Smith drove up in a truck and was ordered to shut off the engine and exit the vehicle.
Instead, police say Smith accelerated toward them, prompting officers to take cover behind another vehicle. Smith eventually exited the truck but appeared to be stumbling and ignored commands.
After being taken into custody, Smith refused to answer whether he would take a breathalyzer test. While in a holding cell, he reportedly began hitting his head on the floor and was taken to a hospital for treatment of a laceration.
Smith is charged with assaulting police officers, criminal damage under $1,000, reckless driving, and aggravated DWI.
