BERNALILLO, N.M. — Police in the Town of Bernalillo are investigating a deadly shooting that left one person dead and another hospitalized late Sunday night.
According to Police Chief Chris Stoyell, officers responded to reports of a disturbance around 9 p.m. near Rotary Park. When they arrived, they found two individuals with gunshot wounds. One victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was transported to a local hospital. No further details have been released about the hospitalized individual’s condition.
As a precaution, a shelter-in-place order was issued for residents east of the Rio Grande and south of U.S. Highway 550 while officers searched for a person described as potentially violent. That order was lifted around 11:40 p.m. after officers completed a sweep of the area. Police say the individual they were looking for was not located.
The Town of Bernalillo says additional updates will be provided as the investigation continues. Anyone with information is urged to contact Bernalillo Police at 505-891-7226.
