ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — About 15,000 Xfinity customers in southeast Albuquerque lost internet service Tuesday after a fiber line was damaged during a gas line response.
According to Comcast, the outage was caused by a third-party utility — the New Mexico Gas Company — which was responding to a natural gas leak near Elm Street and Silver Avenue. During the response, a fiber line was accidentally struck, disrupting service to both residential and business customers.
Comcast issued a statement saying technicians were dispatched immediately and have since restored service. The company apologized for the inconvenience and encouraged customers to use the Xfinity app or website to check outage status or sign up for text alerts.
The New Mexico Gas Company has not released further details about the gas leak or the timeline of the incident.
