Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –A prescribed 412 acre burn is scheduled to begin as early as Tuesday according to the Jemez Ranger District. The Paliza Prescribed Fire is described as a “jackpot burn” meaning fire crews will burn scattered, concentrated pockets or piles of vegetation rather than treating a broad area of the forest floor. The activity will be located northeast of Ponderosa, east of Highway 4 and adjacent to Highway 290. The burn should take between 1 and 4 days to complete as conditions allow. No closures are planned though visitors should remain alert in the fire areas. Smoke may be visible and affect Jemez Springs, Pueblo of Jemez, Zia Pueblo, Ponderosa, Canon, Gilman and from U.S. Route 550 between Rio Rancho and San Ysidro.
