Belen, NM (KKOB) – Police officers and firefighters will be getting a pay increase in Belen. The Belen City Council unanimously approved raises totaling nearly $440,000 annually to help retain and recruit first responders. Belen Police Officers could be earning around $27 an hour with the new increase.
City leaders say Belen is constantly facing competition from neighboring law enforcement and other agencies which hurts them in trying to retain locally trained first responders.
The city could cover the increases with general fund revenue, The salary adjustments are scheduled to take effect with the first full pay period in November.
