TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES, N.M. — City officials have ordered an immediate shutdown of water service across Truth or Consequences following equipment failures and a water main break that significantly reduced the community’s water supply.
According to the city, crews are responding to two separate issues impacting the municipal water system.
Officials said a damaged pump caused water levels in the city’s upper-zone storage tanks to fall to approximately four feet. At the same time, a contractor reportedly struck a water main during construction work, causing additional water loss and dropping tank levels to about one foot.
As a result, the city ordered a complete shutdown of the water system while repairs are underway.
Officials have not announced when water service is expected to be restored, saying the shutoff will remain in effect until repairs are completed.
The outage is also affecting local schools. The Truth or Consequences Municipal School District said water service was unavailable at all school sites.
District officials said portable restroom trailers have been placed at campuses and bottled water is being provided for students and staff.
City crews continue working to repair the damaged infrastructure and restore water service to residents and businesses.
