ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An Albuquerque man remains in custody after police say he left two children unattended in a vehicle while he spent time inside a northeast Albuquerque bar.
According to a criminal complaint, Stephan Natseway was arrested after officers responded to a report involving two children left in a vehicle outside Dirty Bourbon early Saturday morning.
Investigators say Natseway acknowledged he knew the children were in the vehicle and told officers he had attempted to locate family members to watch them but was unable to find anyone.
Natseway reportedly told police he did not intend to stay inside the bar for long. However, according to the complaint, he said he remained longer than planned because people continued asking him to dance.
Authorities say security guards eventually broke a window of the vehicle to remove the children from the back seat.
Police arrested Natseway on charges including child abuse and abandonment.
A second man, Orry Morris, was also arrested in connection with the incident. Jail records show Morris was released over the weekend.
The case remains under investigation.
