Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – On Thursday, three New Mexico state agencies—including CYFD, and the Department of Health, issuing a joint statement blaming a recent baby’s death on the mother.
Although concerns about drug exposure were raised when the baby was born with drugs in her system, the mother’s January drug screen did not trigger a mandatory intervention by CYFD to take custody of the infant. The mother then entered a voluntary Plan of Safe Care, and subsequent home visits by the state reported the baby was living in safe safe living conditions.
The mother and father, Shawna Sitz and Mark Armijo were arrested earlier this week after the 8-month old baby was found dead at a north valley home. Albuquerque police are still investigating the case.
