Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Federal agriculture officials have lifted New Mexico’s restricted New World screwworm infested zone in Lea County. The zone was established in June after the state’s first screwworm case was detected in a pet dog. The USDA says no additional infections have been found since then, and state and federal agencies have worked to prevent further spread. The restriction had required inspections before certain animals could be moved out of the area. Officials say those requirements are no longer needed.
