ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Offices for the Cibola National Forest and National Grasslands will be closed Friday, July 3, in observance of the Fourth of July federal holiday.
Officials say all ranger district offices and the supervisor’s office will resume regular hours on Monday, July 6. Essential services will continue during the closure.
With increased visitors expected over the holiday, forest officials are reminding the public about ongoing fire restrictions and safety measures to help prevent wildfires.
Fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices are prohibited on all National Forest lands. Visitors are also advised to avoid parking on dry grass and to ensure trailer safety chains do not drag and create sparks.
Campfires are only allowed in authorized areas, and smoking restrictions remain in place. Officials say properly disposing of cigarette butts is critical to preventing accidental fires.
Fire Restrictions in Place
Several districts remain under fire restrictions, including:
- Mount Taylor Ranger District: Stage II restrictions
- Kiowa/Rita-Blanca Ranger District: Stage I restrictions
- Mountainair and Sandia Ranger Districts: Stage I restrictions
- Magdalena Ranger District: Stage I restrictions
Officials encourage visitors to check current conditions and restrictions before heading out.
More information on recreation and fire restrictions can be found on the Cibola National Forest website.
