ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The University of New Mexico has named Dr. Barbara Rodriguez as its next provost and executive vice president for academic affairs. Her appointment takes effect June 1.
UNM President Garnett Stokes made the formal appointment following a recommendation from incoming President Steve Goldstein, who participated in the finalist interviews and selection process.
Rodriguez has been serving as interim provost since July 2025. Prior to that, she held the role of senior vice provost for academic affairs, where she oversaw faculty-related matters including tenure, promotion, and academic policy.
University officials say Rodriguez was selected following a national search that brought in candidates from across the country. The process included public forums and opportunities for feedback from faculty, staff, students, and the broader community.
The appointment comes as UNM prepares for a leadership transition, with Goldstein set to assume the role of president.
