Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – A 44-year old man is in jail this morning charged with an open count of murder and without bond for a shooting death in downtown that happened early Saturday morning.
According to APD, Estevan Gomez of Española and a friend were in Albuquerque for an event and decided to visit the Knockouts club. When they were leaving the club they couldn’t find the Ford Escape they were traveling in.
Around 4 a.m they found a similar car that belonged to Sanders who saw them, walked over and accused them of trying to steal his car. Gomez and his friend walked away but Sanders pulled a gun and followed them and tried to rob them.
Gomez and his friend tried to take off in their car but Sanders fired a shot through the back window and Gomez was killed in the area of Third and Copper in downtown. Hours later they were able to arrest Sanders at a Northeast home.
