Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency plans to seize about seven acres of state trust land along the New Mexico-Mexico border. The State Land Office says the land near Santa Teresa was granted to the state more than a century ago to generate revenue for public schools. Federal officials say the property is needed to build new border infrastructure, including fencing, technology, and access roads. The federal government offered roughly eight-hundred thousand dollars for the land earlier this year. State land officials say they are reviewing legal options to challenge the acquisition.
