A new lawsuit has been filed against the Children, Youth and Families Department, the state Health Care Authority, AMIkids, and a former group home employee following the death of a teenage boy.
According to The New Mexican, the lawsuit alleges 16-year-old Jaydun Garcia was failed on multiple levels while in state care before dying by suicide a year ago.It claims staff at the group home did not intervene as his mental health deteriorated and failed to respond on the day he died, despite warnings from other youths that he may have been harming himself.The suit names former employee Kymara Divine Hargrove, who is accused of disregarding those warnings.Defendants largely declined to comment on the allegations while expressing condolences.The family is seeking damages for pain, suffering, and death, punitive damages against A-M-I-kids and Hargrove, and legal costs.
