NM Governor Defends Border Decision

GOVERNOR MICHELLE LUJAN GRISHAM PULLED NEW MEXICO NATIONAL GUARD TROOPS FROM THE BORDER WITH MEXICO … AND THE MOVE GOT NATIONAL ATTENTION ON WEDNESDAY. THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS LUJAN GRISHAM THEN DEFENDED HER DECISION, SAYING THE AREA IN SOUTHERN NEW MEXICO WILL NOT BE ‘MILITARIZED.’ SHE SAYS THE STATE WILL NOT USE THE NATIONAL GUARD AND ANY OTHER ASSET IN AN INAPPROPRIATE WAY.

LUJAN GRISHAM ALSO TELLS THE JOURNAL HER ADMINISTRATION WILL NOT IGNORE RANCHERS IN THE STATE’S BOOT HEEL WHO NEED AND HAVE ASKED FOR HELP SINCE CENTRAL AMERICAN MIGRANTS HAVE FLOCKED TO THE BORDER. MORE THAN 26 GROUPS OF 100 OR MORE PEOPLE HAVE MADE THEIR WAY TO THE U-S BORDER IN THE PAST FOUR MONTHS.
