Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) —Albuquerque city councilors decided Monday night on how to allocate $5.2 million from an opioid settlement, by focusing on treatment, housing, and prevention programs. The plan directs $2 million to the Gateway System of Care to create a treatment navigation program. The program will assess people staying in city shelters and directly connect those with opioid use or co-occurring disorders to treatment, recovery support and housing services. Over the next 18 years the city will receive about $80 million to be used for these services. The money comes from legal settlements with opioid manufacturers and distributors accused of contributing to the addiction and overdose crisis.
