Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Election officials in Sandoval County are investigating after approximately 200 mail-in ballots were found to be contaminated with fentanyl and methamphetamine. County Manager Wayne Johnson says the ballots were identified during routine screening by K-9 units trained to detect narcotics. No election workers or county employees were exposed. Officials called in Albuquerque Fire Rescue hazardous materials crews, and the ballots have been secured while county officials await guidance from the New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office. The source of the contamination remains unknown.
