Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – New Mexico Chile Farmers faced a triple whammy this year – high temperatures, not enough water and a wandering bug infestation. The usual harvest is down 20-to-50-percent as a result and making it the worst Chile season in 16-years for farmers across New Mexico.
To get your green chiles this year – you might have to go South.
Ed Ogaz, President of the New Mexico Chile Association says if you need green chiles, you may have to drive down to the Hatch/Las Cruces area for your supply. The only good news from this year’s harvest – the red chiles are coming in now, and look good, mostly because the green chiles turned red too quickly
