Las Cruces, NM (KKOB) – A former middle school teacher in Las Cruces who was also a coach, will remain in jail until his trial which is now scheduled for November of this year. Wyatt Cornelius faces accusations that involve him having inappropriate contact and messages with female students.
A grand jury also indicted Cornelius in July on two additional counts of criminal sexual contact involving a second victim between the ages of 13 and 18.
Cornelius was initially arrested in April after Las Cruces police said they investigated allegations that he exchanged inappropriate Snapchat messages with a 14-year-old female new student and touched the student during class and sporting events.
new court documents allege Cornelius touched the second victim inappropriately between September 2025 and February 2026. That case will have a separate trial date.
