ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque Police are investigating after an infant was found dead at a home in the North Valley Tuesday morning.
Officers were called to a residence in the 600 block of Aztec Road N.W. around 8:30 a.m. Albuquerque Fire Rescue personnel responded and confirmed the infant was deceased at the scene.
The case has been turned over to detectives with APD’s Crimes Against Children Unit, who are working to determine the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
Police have not released the infant’s age or any information about what may have led to the death. No charges have been announced, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The investigation comes just days after authorities in Otero County reported the death of a newborn. According to the Otero County Sheriff’s Office, a parent called 911 after finding the infant unresponsive. Emergency crews responded and transported the child to a hospital, where lifesaving efforts continued, but the infant did not survive. Investigators in that case said they found no indications of foul play, and no charges have been filed.
APD has not indicated whether foul play is suspected in the North Valley case. Detectives continue to gather information as the investigation moves forward.
