Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – One of the suspects arrested for the murder of a 14-year old male inside a dorm at UNM has made a plea agreement and has pled no contest and was sentenced in the shooting death. John Fuentes pleaded no contest to second-degree murder and aggravated battery in the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Michael LaMotte. He will serve 12-years in prison and then serve five months’ probation.
A police affidavit states LaMotte, Fuentes, Zion Miera, who is LaMotte’s brother and Daniel Archuleta were using drugs including cocaine and LSD in a dorm room at UNM and without warning, Fuentes shot LaMotte in the head and then opened fire on Miera and Archuleta. They were not injured in the shooting.
Fuentes is the first defendant to be sentenced in connection with the case.
