Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — A northern New Mexico man who admitted threatening fishermen will avoid prison time under a sentence handed down this week. Erik Briones was sentenced to 18 months of probation after pleading guilty to three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Prosecutors said Briones threatened people fishing near his property on multiple occasions over a three-year period. In addition to probation, he was ordered to pay $15,000 in fines and complete 100 hours of community service. State officials say he is prohibited from interfering with public access to waterways while on probation.
