Santa Fe, NM (KKOB)- A crash in Santa Fe Monday morning occurred following a brief pursuit by State Police of a man driving a stolen vehicle.
The crash happened at the intersection of Cerrillos Rd and St. Michaels Drive just after 5 a.m. 30-year old Reynaldo Garcia died on the scene and a 28-year old man who was his passenger is in the hospital this morning.
State police report that Garcia was driving a Toyota which was reported stolen, when a state police officer noticed the vehicle did not have a license plate when the officer tried to make a traffic stop, Garcia fled and a short pursuit took place but was terminated due to Garcia’s reckless driving. Minutes later, another state police officer saw that Garcia had crashed into a pickup truck at Cerrillos and St. Michael’s. Garcia died on the scene and the driver of the pickup suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Garcia’s passenger remained hospitalized Monday, and is not facing any criminal charges.
