Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — It will cost New Mexicans more to register their vehicles. In an effort to support more than $1 billion in transportation projects, drivers will soon pay about 25% more to register a passenger vehicle. The increase starts next month for passenger vehicles. New registration fees for electric and hybrid cars take effect Jan. 1st. The increase applies only to passenger vehicles. Commercial vehicles will also face a tax increase, based on weight and miles traveled on New Mexico roads.
