Albuquerque, NMÂ (KKOB) –Socorro County commissioners last night unanimously approved a one year moratorium on potential development of data centers and related infrastructure in the county. It’s in response to Green Data’s proposed plans for a 10,000 acre solar farm and data center between Socorro and Magdalena. Public backlash prompted NM Tech to announce it was dropping plans for the project. After Tuesday’s vote a committee will be created of experts and community members who will draft regulations for data centers. Consideration of the regulations will happen before the moratorium expires.
