BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. — Motorists in the South Valley can expect temporary traffic changes next week as Bernalillo County begins traffic signal upgrades at two intersections along Isleta Boulevard.
The first phase of work is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26, at Barcelona Road and Isleta Boulevard. From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., traffic signals will be placed in flashing mode, and drivers will be required to treat the intersection as an all-way stop.
On Tuesday, Oct. 27, crews will perform similar work at Blake Road and Isleta Boulevard, with the same traffic pattern in effect between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Officials expect the work at each intersection to be completed the same day.
According to Bernalillo County, the upgrades will include audible pedestrian push buttons, new traffic signals with reflective backplates, improved vehicle detection technology, and the conversion of left-turn signals to flashing yellow arrows.
The project is designed to modernize the intersections and improve traffic operations for both drivers and pedestrians.
