Santa Fe Police are preparing to roll out new traffic enforcement measures across the city.
Officials say six mobile speed cameras are expected to begin operating in August, following ongoing planning with a technology vendor. The devices will be split evenly across the city, with three placed on the north side and three on the south.
Police say one camera on each side will monitor both speed and vehicle noise, while the remaining units will focus on speeding.
City leaders say the initial rollout is designed to collect data on driving behavior and help determine whether to expand the program in the future with additional mobile or fixed cameras.
Along with the new technology, the department says its traffic section is now fully staffed. That includes motor, bike, and DWI units that focus on issues like aggressive driving, street racing, and impaired driving.
Officials say the expanded staffing is expected to increase traffic enforcement efforts while allowing patrol officers to focus more on other calls and community policing.
