Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Developers have their eyes on a vacant office building within walking distance of Old Town and the Sawmill Market. While they envision filling the space with a chain hotel along the lines of a Hampton Inn or a Home 2 Suites. To that point, Sun Capital Hotel’s is asking city leaders to support the project through a more than 40 million dollar industrial revenue bond which would give the developers a tax break. However, there’s been pushback from some of the residents in the area. They argue, that kind of development would erode the historic character of the area, and shouldn’t qualify for city incentives. The IRB request is expected to be considered by city council at their next meeting on Monday. The Albuquerque Development Council also pushed forward the company’s request for a different 25-million dollar IRB for a hotel in the Journal Center, which will also go to council for a vote.
